This post is more of an interactive piece than a ranting space. While waiting to be seen by the doctor, I sat on the couch and looked for something to read. I picked a book titled Live and Learn and Pass It On Volume II by H. Jackson Brown. It was full of quotes about things people have learned over the years...written by people of all ages. I thought it would be interesting to read what people have learned, so here's your task. Post lessons you have learned throughout the years using the sentence stem "I've learned...". I'll start.
"I've learned there's no peace like the peace I've found in God."
"I've learned that there's more to life than Jordans, drugs, and alcohol."
"I've learned that one person's stupid and senseless decisions can leave a sister without a brother, a mother and father without a son, and a son without a father."

31 and I've learned that I can't change someone to be what I want them to be, but I can change how I allow them to treat me.

ReplyDeleteI've learned to stop saving all my money because when I die some other woman will probably be spending it.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that children are truly a blessing no matter how many times they work your nerves.
I've learned that closure is just a word. You never truly get it when your child is killed.
I've learned that "at least you have other children" is about the stupidest thing you can say to a parent when their child dies.
I've learned that people can sympathize but they have no idea the pain a mother feels when she buries her child.
I've learned that temporary insanity can truly happen.
I've learned to say what is on my mind. If don't really want to know then don't ask me.
I've learned that if I have no control over the outcome, worrying about it will not help.
I've learned that no woman should have any more children that she is willing to raise by herself, no matter what her husband wants.

(In response to your fourth lesson learned)
DeleteI can't even believe someone thought that was an appropriate comment on any level. Crazy.
I've learned that no matter how hard I work, I will always be a glorified babysitter with paid vacations to some.

I've learned that no relationship is consistently 50/50. Sometimes in life you can only give 20 and you need 80 and vice versa. (I'm talking man and woman, friends, family, whatever)
ReplyDeleteI've learned that most of the time people want your opinion only if you agree with them. If you don't agree, it goes in one ear and out the other and if you don't agree with them too many times they will just stop asking for it.
I've learned that my expectations for people are too high (<---long hard lesson).
I've learned that sometimes I should just keep my mouth closed and put on my best poker face (<---also a hard lesson and an ongoing work in progress...so have I really officially learned lol)
I've learned that things you identify about yourself that you want to change, don't always change overnight like you want them to, but you cannot get discouraged. Just keep the faith and pray on it, you will get there, but not alone (GOD helps).
I've learned that a positive attitude goes a long way.
I've learned I can't right all my wrongs, but I can learn from them
I've learned that the truth is better than even a white lie, but not everyone can handle it (<---I haven't fully figured out where to go from this point...probably back to just keeping my mouth shut lol)
I've learned that the gas and oil Industry does not have to tell us what they inject into the land (hydraulic fracturing). They are exempt from sections of the laws that protect us. (Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI've learned that somebody, I will not name, really bumps the wall alot when sleeping.

I learned that people who like big butts cannot lie.
